Located in western Portugal and very close to Lisbon, Estremadura is the region that produces most wine in Portugal. It encompasses a 30 km wide coastal area, from Lisbon to north of Leiria, and the climate is influenced by the freshness of Atlantic. Although the region was known for producing cheap white wine for the Lisbon market, Obidos (one of the DOC regions), where Quinta das Cerejeiras is located, is the exception with the production of quality red wines.
The Companhia do Sanguinhal was created in 1920 and produces wines from three different properties: Quinta do Sanguinhal, Quinta das Cerejeiras and Quinta de S. Francisco. Together they form a vineyard of 85 ha, managed by the Perira da Fonseca family. |
