Bairrada is situated in the north of Portugal where it experiences a similar climate to that of Vinho Verde, characterised by Atlantic influence, frequent sea mists and high annual rainfall. Over two centuries have passed following the uprooting of vines by Marques de Pombal, this exciting region is now known for tannic red wines with good ageing potential and for sparkling wines. The Baga grape dominates the red wines; Maria Gomes and Bical produces the sparkling wines.
Viteno is a state bottle producer making quality sparkling wine using regional and international grapes. The sparkling wines complement the regional delicatessen, leitao or suckling pig. |
