Region / Vineyards

The soil in the Dão is rich in granite and schist, offering a great diversity in terms of style and expression of fruit, showing an earthiness to the reds and fruitiness to the whites.

The União Comercial da Beira (UCB) company, founded in 1942, is one of the oldest companies in the Dão region. In the 1980′s, the company acquired a landmark property, the
Quinta do Cerrado, a mere 300 metres from its doorstep, where it planted 20 hectares of vineyard and installed a winery to process its own grapes and those acquired from other winegrowers in the Region.

The Quinta do Cerrado, with approximately 30 hectares, is part of the Dão Wine Route.

Vinification / Ageing

Total destemming, prolonged pellicular maceration and alcoholic fermentation at 28º. Three months in Portuguese oak barrels and three months in bottles.

Press

Many believe the Douro to be Portugal’s top red wine region, but the top wines from Dão for me compete on quality and are usually cheaper. This blend serves up raspberry, plum and tobacco flavours, encased in a tangy, peppery overcoat. Lovely, lively and refreshing red.
