Fruity with citric, green apple and light tropical fruits notes. It has good structure, it is fresh and tasty with long enough finish.
Region / Vineyards
With a mix of schist, greywaches and metamorphic soils, Mesão Frio is located close to the centre of the Douro region. Since 1756 designated as a producer of elevated quality wines with similar controls of today’s DOC’s.
The Co-operative of Mesão Frio is funded in 1950 to break the exclusivity with the Casa Do Douro. Since then, the small growers benefited with high quality winemaking facilities producing wines highly competitive and representative of the region. Today they are 500 of them and they are an example in Portugal as one of the best.
Vinification / Ageing
The grapes are crushed and destemmed followed by 8 to 10 hours of skin contact. The must is produced by one bar pneumatic press and stays 48 hours decanting at 8°C. The clean must produced is inoculated with selected yeasts; alcoholic fermentation for a minimum of 30 days at between 9°C and 11°C. It remains a few months on the lees in stainless steel vats before bottling.
